Field Hockey's Weekend Homestand to Include Visit from No. 1 Wake Forest

DAVIDSON, N.C. - The Davidson field hockey team will look to extend their undefeated record at Belk Turf Field this weekend when they take the field for a pair of critical mid-season contests. The 'Cats will kick off a four-game homestand when they take on Longwood University on Saturday at 1 p.m., then welcome the No. 1 Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Sunday at 3 p.m.
Scouting the Wildcats: Davidson enters the weekend with a 2-4 mark overall, and are 0-1 in NorPac conference play, losing 5-2 to Longwood last weekend in Farmville, Va. They are 2-0 at home this season, having taken down Georgetown, 3-2, and VCU, 4-2, the weekend of Sept. 5-6. Offensively, the 'Cats are led by freshman Kathelijn van der Ven, who was named the NorPac Rookie of the Week for the week of Sept. 8, the last time the team was at home. She has scored two goals and recorded two assists so far on the year, and leads the team with 17 shots taken, nine of which were on goal, also tops on the squad. Senior Britti Himelfarb is second on the squad with five points, including a team-high three assists. Seven different Wildcats have scored a goal this season, with Clare Perry contributing a pair of scoring strikes to join van der Ven as the multiple-goal scorers on the team. Junior Christa Goeke has recorded 24 saves in five games in goal, the fifth-highest total in the NorPac.
Scouting the Lancers: After taking a pair of home wins over Davidson and Towson last weekend, Longwood comes into the game at 3-4 overall, and 2-1 in the NorPac. Their top scorer is senior Carla Binnewies, who was named NorPac Offensive Player of the Week this past week, following her first career hat trick against Davidson. On the year, Binnewies has four goals and one assist for nine points, second in the NorPac, and has taken a team-high 26 shots. Also with four scores is Carra Bunner, who is tied for second on the team in points with Lauren Van de Kamp, whose two goals and four assists give her eight points total. Goalkeeper Erin West has notched 32 saves while allowing 19 goals in seven games, recording a save percentage of .627.

Hilary Moore has scored five times this year to lead the team, which has five players who have multiple goals. Senior Michelle Kasold ranks second in the ACC?with a team-high seven assists, and was named to the Women'sFieldHockey.com Honor Roll this pas week. Goalkeeper Crystal Duffield leads the ACC?in saves with 28, and has allowed nine goals in six games.
