9/18/2025 12:01:00 PM | Field Hockey
Two home games are on the Davidson field hockey team's docket this weekend, as the Wildcats will welcome La Salle and Ohio to Carol Grotnes Belk Turf Field.
Â
Davidson and La Salle will meet Friday at 5 p.m. in the Atlantic 10 Conference openers for both teams, and non-conference foe Ohio visits Sunday afternoon.
Â
It's the first of three weekends in which the Wildcats will play two home games this season. They will host UC Davis and Stanford Oct. 17-19 and Saint Louis and Queens Oct. 31-Nov. 2.
Â
LATEST ON THE 'CATS
• Davidson enters the weekend 3-3 after sweeping last week's games against Longwood and Bellarmine.
• On Monday, senior Sib Naaktgeboren was named A-10 Offensive Player of the Week, becoming the first Wildcat to earn the league's Offensive award since 2015, when Anne Federico and Emily Leytham were honored. Â
• Naaktgeboren scored both goals in the 2-0 home win over Longwood, then scored two and assisted on another in the 5-1 victory at Bellarmine.
• With a career-best eight goals this season, Naaktgeboren leads the A-10 in scoring and is tied for fifth nationally. She also leads the league with 3.00 points per game.
• Naaktgeboren is one of just four Wildcats to score eight goals in the last 13 seasons, since the program's all-time scoring leader, Finley Amato, scored 11 in 2012. The others were Anne Federico and Katherine English in 2016 and Naaktgeboren's former teammate, Abby Pompeo, in 2023.
• Naaktgeboren currently ranks fifth on the program's career assists list with 17, seven shy of the record set by Amato, who concluded her career in 2013.
• Davidson has outscored its opponents 18-10 so far this year, with Emelia Little, Ava Mickel and Lourdes Wolf scoring two goals apiece and Matilda Collins, Emilia Ostos, Hallie Slidell and Eva van der Kooi adding one each.
• The Wildcats finished fifth among eight A-10 teams last year and posted three A-10 wins for the first time since 2015.Â
• This preseason, Davidson was voted fourth in the league, which now includes seven teams after UMass, a 2025 national semifinalist, departed for the MAC.Â
• Davidson's top finish in the A-10 came in 2015, when the Wildcats finished in a three-way tie for second and took the No. 4 seed into the league's postseason tournament.Â
SCOUTING LA SALLE
• The Explorers (1-4) have lost their last three contests, including 2-0 to Cornell in their last outing Sept. 14.
• La Salle's lone win to date is a 9-1 victory over New Haven on Sept. 5.
• Roos Pasveer was an A-10 All-Rookie Team member last season and was named to the A-10 Preseason All-Conference Team this year.
• The Explorers were voted sixth in the A-10's preseason coaches' poll.
• Davidson is seeking a second straight win over the Explorers, after earning a 2-0 victory last year. It was the Wildcats' first win over La Salle since 2015.
Â
SCOUTING OHIO
• Before coming to Davidson, Ohio will visit Appalachian State Friday in its MAC opener.
• The Bobcats enter the weekend 1-5 and having lost two straight.
• Ohio earned a 2-1 overtime win over UC Davis on Sept. 11.
