WASHINGTON — Davidson field hockey player Eva van der Kooi has been named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon.
A freshman from Groningen, Netherlands, van der Kooi scored a goal in the Wildcats' 2-0 road win over La Salle Sunday. It was Davidson's first win over the Explorers since 2015 and gave the Wildcats multiple A-10 wins for the first time since 2021.
"Eva has been shooting so well the past couple of weeks, and her goal was a very appreciated security goal at a critical moment in the game," said coach Zoe Almquist. "Her persistence, positioning and finishing ability on the front line has been super instrumental to our team as we look to finish the season on a continued strong note!"
With Davidson leading 1-0 and looking to secure Sunday's win, van der Kooi struck with 5:33 to play. It was her second goal of the season.
She's the second Wildcat to earn a weekly honor this season, joining goalkeeper MaryKate Berg, who was Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 3.
Now 6-6 overall and 2-3 in the A-10, the Wildcats return to action Friday, Oct. 25 when they host league foe Lock Haven.
