Field Hockey Notches 2-0 Win at La Salle

CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa. — Goals by Matilda Collins and Eva van der Kooi and lockdown defense helped the Davidson field hockey team earn a 2-0 win over La Salle Sunday afternoon at The Proving Grounds.
It's the Wildcats' first win over the Explorers since 2015 and gives them multiple Atlantic 10 Conference wins — and back-to-back league victories — in a season for the first time since 2021.
Davidson improved to 6-6 overall and 2-3 in the A-10, while La Salle fell to 8-8 and 1-4.
"I spent the week leading up to this game trying not to overstate the significance for our team," said coach Zoe Almquist. "We played them last year in such a tight matchup, and I knew that this year if we could beat them, it would be an important step forward for the group. I'm super proud of how much maturity and poise my group played with today. We defended so well today, especially our defensive corners which were fantastic! And we attacked relentlessly. I loved the shots we were taking and the corners we executed as well! It's a great day to be a wildcat!"
Collins got the Wildcats started with a goal, her second of the season, at the 3:37 mark of the first quarter, following a penalty corner and Celie Constantine assist.
The Wildcats held that one-goal advantage into the fourth quarter when van der Kooi also netted her second goal of the year. Her strike with 5:33 left helped the Wildcats hold on for a second straight win.
Davidson finished with advantages in shots (19-10), shots-on-goal (14-5) and penalty corners (8-5). Sib Naaktgeboren had game-highs of six shots and five shots-on-goal.
Keeper MaryKate Berg made five saves to notch the shutout.
