DAVIDSON — Parker Nolan and Ryan Wilson drove in four runs apiece, Michael Carico neared the program's single-season home run record and the Davidson baseball team completed its third Atlantic 10 Conference sweep with a 12-3 win over UMass Sunday afternoon at Wilson Field.
The Wildcats exit the weekend 37-9 overall and atop the A-10 with a 15-3 league mark, while UMass is now 7-11 in the A-10. The sweep is the sixth of the season for the Wildcats, who have won six straight games and all six A-10 series.
"This team has been consistent all year," said Davidson coach Rucker Taylor. "Coming off of setting the single-season wins record yesterday, I was proud of how they played today. We played exceptional defense and really did the whole weekend. We had a lot of quality at-bats against some guys with good numbers."
Nolan's three-run homer to left in the first inning, his 12th of the year, got things going in the right direction, staking the Wildcats to a 3-1 lead. The four-run second included a Carico two-run shot, and his 17th blast of the season tied him with Tim Kerns (1993) for second on the single-season Davidson list, one behind the 18 Will Robertson hit during the 2017 season.
Wilson, meanwhile, drove in runs via a sacrifice fly, a bases-loaded walk and two singles, and Jacob Hinderleider's two-RBI single in the seventh completed the scoring. Nolan and Wilson had three hits apiece, while Carico, Hinderleider and Trevor Candelaria had two hits.
On the mound, lefty Ryan Feczko improved to 9-0, throwing five innings, allowing two hits and two earned runs and striking out two. Isaac Fix threw the next three innings, surrendering two hits and a run and striking out two before Gabe Levy pitched a 1-2-3 ninth.
