Davidson Falls to Duke in Mid-Week Action

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Peter Zyla went 4-for-5, including a RBI triple to help lead Duke to a 13-3 win over the Davidson baseball team in mid-week action Tuesday night at Wilson Field.
Zyla led six Blue Devils with multi-hit performances as Duke (18-15) out hit the Wildcats, 18-11. Davidson committed two errors, including one in the first that sparked a 4-0 lead.
In addition to the Duke offense, Kellen Urbon (4-1) pitched four shutout innings allowing four hits with two strikeouts for the win. Urbon was the first of six Blue Devils to appear on the mound.
Allen Barry (1-2) was the first of nine Wildcats to appear on the hit, allowing five runs - three earned - off six hits in 2.0 innings for the loss.
Two Wildcats recorded multiple-hit outings, including Andrew Pope and Alec Acosta. Pope led the way going 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored, while Acosta picked up two hits in four at bats.
Davidson (18-15) got on board in the fifth with two runs scored off two hits, before three singles led to one run in the sixth but it was not enough as Duke scored four runs in the first and five in its final at bat to secure the contest.
The Wildcats will return to action when it travels to the University of Richmond for a weekend series starting Friday, April 15 at 3 p.m.
