DURHAM, N.C. – Despite Brian Fortier's 2-for-4, two-RBI performance, the Davidson baseball team fell to No. 7 North Carolina, 10-2, Tuesday night at Boshamer Stadium.
Fortier was the lone Wildcat with a multiple hit performance as the first baseman registered two singles, including one to center field that scored Aaron Tovsky (hit by pitch) and Lee Miller (walked) in the first that allowed Davidson (14-11) to take an early 2-0 lead.
But North Carolina (20-4) scored six runs in the sixth inning to take a four-run lead before scoring insurance runs in the seventh and eighth innings to secure the ballgame.
Brandon Riley led both teams with a perfect performance, going 4-for-4 with three RBI and one run scored as the Tar Heels out hit the Wildcats, 10-4, while each team recorded an error.
Brett Daniels (2-0) picked up the win for North Carolina as he was the second Tar Heel to appear on the mound, pitching 2.2 scoreless innings and only allowing one hit with three strikeouts.
Davidson had three Wildcats pitch scoreless innings, including Evan Roberts, Josh Hudson and Peyton Hopkins who allowed no more than four hits combined. Allen Barry (1-1) recorded the loss, allowing six runs off five hits.
The Wildcats are back in action this weekend when they travel to Saint Joseph's for a three-game series starting Friday, April 1 at 3 p.m.
