Fortier Goes 3-for-4 in Loss at Wake Forest

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Despite a 3-for-4 performance from Brian Fortier, the Davidson baseball team fell to Wake Forest, 7-4, Tuesday night at Couch Ballpark.
The loss dropped the Wildcats to 2-2 overall, while Wake Forest improved to 4-0 on the season.
The 'Cats got on the board with three runs in the third. Brian Fortier led off with a single to left field, before Demon Deacons' starter Rayne Supple walked three straight to bring in the first run. After John McCarren relieved Supple, Lee Miller singled to left center to score Cam Johnson and Andrew Pope.
Following a run in the fourth, Wake Forest continued with the momentum and scored four runs off two hits, including a three-run RBI double from Will Craig to go up 5-3.
Despite a RBI single from Johnson in the ninth, runs in the sixth and eighth secured the win for Wake Forest.
Connor Gordon started on the mound for the Wildcats and pitched 4.1 innings, allowing four runs off two hits with one strikeout for the loss. Four other Wildcats appeared on the hill, which were all freshmen.
Christian Bartholomew pitched in relief for the Deacons, allowing just one hit with one strikeout for the win. Six other Demon Deacons appeared on the mound.
Davidson will return home for a weekend series with Georgetown starting Friday at 6 p.m.
