Wildcats Fall to Air Force, 9-4

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson baseball team fell to the Air Force Academy, 9-4, to close out both teams' opening weekend Sunday afternoon at Wilson Field.
Air Force (3-0) got off to a hot start, scoring seven runs in the first three innings.
Despite the loss, the Wildcats' Will Robertson belted his second home run in as many days, a solo shot in the bottom of the sixth.
Jake Sidwell led the way for Davidson (2-1), going 2-for-4, while Andrew Pope, Sam Foy and Alec Acosta each added an RBI from the top of the lineup.
Tyler Jones went a game-best 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored to lead the Falcons.
On the mound, Trent Monaghan (1-0) picked up the win for Air Force, pitching six innings and allowing just three runs off three hits with two strikeouts.
Six Wildcats appeared on the hill for Davidson, including Josh Smutzer (0-1), who suffered the loss.
Freshmen Josh Hudson and Allen Barry also made relief appearances for the 'Cats, closing with consecutive scoreless innings.
Davidson will be back in action Tuesday, Feb. 23 when it travels to Wake Forest for a 4 p.m. first pitch.
