BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Goals from Alan Reiter and Drew Brown late in the contest extended No. 20 Davidson's unbeaten streak to seven as the Wildcats defeated Campbell, 3-1, in non-conference men's soccer action Saturday afternoon at the Eakes Athletic Complex.
"Each win is vital and has its own set of challenges," said Davidson head coach Matt Spear. "We are pleased we produced the winning effort."
Off to its best start since beginning the 1982 season 9-0-4, Davidson improves to 5-0-2, while the Camels fall to 3-4-0.
With the score tied 1-1 in the 75th minute, Reiter headed home a Luke Blades' corner kick for the eventual game-winner and his team-leading fourth strike of the season.
"Alan continues to make big plays. We're super pumped that his senior year continues to be so productive."
"Luke's corner was pin-point perfect, but it took Alan's timing and courage to finish it."
Coming off an upset-win over No. 2/3 Virginia Wednesday evening, the Wildcats got an insurance goal from Brown just over a minute later to put the game out of reach.
"It is always great when a defender scores and Drew's game is so selfless."
In addition to an 11-9 edge in shots, Davidson finished with a commanding 12-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Less than four minutes after checking into the contest, Davidson's Nathan Marder scored his first career goal off a centering pass from fellow forward Valeriy Sviderskiy.
"Nathan's work rate on the pitch is big time and we are pleased he was rewarded with a goal. It also underlines our depth and Val's ability to create chances," said Spear.
Campbell, which got off just three shot attempts in the opening period, put four on frame early in the second half, including Tunji Osifesco's 54th minute equalizer.
"In the first half we were very good but we could not gain that two goal lead. So when Campbell came out better to start the second half, it made us dig in."
Both keepers recorded three saves.
The Wildcats will conclude their four-game road swing Saturday evening when they head to Dayton for both teams Atlantic 10 opener.
"A lot of guys got to play today and one of my favorite parts was watching the starters on the bench so passionately supporting their teammates, That epitomizes the strength of this group's brotherhood," Spear commented.
