LEADING OFF
- Davidson was defeated on the road by both NC Central (2/20) and Duke (4/2) and will be looking to even the home-and-home series with both teams.

- Two-way player Ryan Lowe leads Davidson with a .293 batting average, while Forrest Brandt follows at .290 with a team-leading .394 on-base percentage. Andrew Barna has hit a career-high 10 home runs this season and has 28 RBI to lead the team in both categories.

- Lowe is one of 25 players in the nation named to the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Watch List by the College Baseball Hall of Fame.

- The Wildcats are 5-4 in their last nine games. Overall, they are 12-12 as the home team this season, but are just 3-18 on the road.

- Davidson is currently in 10th place in the SoCon standings and will need some help in addition to at least winning its remaining series at Samford (May 16-17) to qualify for the eight-team SoCon Tournament. Mathematically, Davidson can still finish as high as seventh. The 'Cats are looking to move past Furman (12-15), Samford (10-13) and Wofford (10-17). Davidson holds tiebreakers over Furman and last-place UNCG (8-16). Crucial series include UNCG at Furman and Samford at Elon this weekend.

- Following the NC Central game Wednesday, Davidson will have eight days off for exams before concluding the regular season at Samford.

SCOUTING DUKE
After a week off for exams, Duke lost its most recent contest Sunday at Libery, 3-4, but is 25-21 overall on the season and 9-14 in ACC play. Andy Perez leads the team with a .322 average, while Jordan Betts is batting .283 with seven home runs and a team-best 42 RBI, and Chris Marconcini is batting .272 with a team-best eight home runs and 34 RBI. UNCG and NC Central are the only two common opponents the Wildcats share with the Blue Devils. Duke defeated UNCG once (17-2) and NC Central (6-3, 8-3) twice, while the 'Cats took two of three from UNCG and lost its contest at NC Central.

SCOUTING NC CENTRAL
The Eagles are 25-25 overall and 12-12 in the MEAC, and is led by Luis Diaz, who is currently holding the team's triple crown, batting .301 with two home runs and 29 RBI. The Eagles will take on High Point Tuesday before visiting Wilson Field. In addition to Duke, UNCG is the only other common opponent with Davidson, and the Eagles were defeated by UNCG, 17-8.
NOTES
POWER SURGE: Davidson has more than doubled last year's home run total of 15 with 32 home runs this season. Andrew Barna has already surpassed his previous career high of seven with 10 this season to rank 29th in the nation and seventh in the SoCon. Davidson has ranked consistently in the Top 50 for home runs as a team this season and is presently 29th in the country with 0.71 home runs per game.

RBI MACHINE: Andrew Barna ranks eighth all-time in career RBIs at Davidson with 137. He is closing in on Tim Kerns '93, who had 138. He is among the active career leaders in the SoCon.

DOUBLEHEADER CYCLE: Andrew Barna had a single, double, triple and home run at The Citadel (5/4), but he earned the triple a game late. Barna finished a triple shy of the cycle in Game 1, but got his first three-bagger of the season later in the day in Game 2.

POLICEMEN: Davidson leads the league in catching base stealers, nabbing 37 (UNCG is second with 24), and in picking off base runners with 18 (Elon is second with 16).

GOING THE DISTANCE: RHP Ryan Lowe threw the first complete game of his career and the first one by Davidson pitcher this season at Wofford (4/27, G1). The Wildcats defeated the Terriers, 3-2, with Lowe allowing the runs on just seven hits and a walk with five strikeouts.

SO CLOSE: Davidson suffered its third one-run loss to a top-10 team in the past two seasons at No. 6 NC State (4/23). Last season, Davidson fell at No. 6 North Carolona, 4-5, and at No. 3 South Carolina, 1-2.

EXCLUSIVE GROUP: Chris Dyer became just the second catcher to ever throw out NC State's Trea Turner at second, who had led the nation in stolen bases last season and is NC State's all-time leader already as a sophomore.

THE LAST PITCH: Davidson's doubleheader with UNCG (4/20) had dramatic conclusions at both ends. Nathan Becker appeared to have a walk-off, three-run home run for Davidson in the afternoon tilt, but it did not carry quite far enough and was caught by UNCG's Christian Wolfe at the fence. In the evening game, Davidson took a two-run lead into the top of the ninth inning but UNCG pulled within one, loaded the bases with two outs, and Zach Leach worked a full count before Michael Zeblo was able to induce a groundout to end the threat and secure the win.

BACK-TO-BACK: Michael Zeblo and Ryan Lowe hit back-to-back home runs in the third inning against Winthrop (4/16), marking the first time the Wildcats had hit back-to-back homers since Danny Weiss '11 and Drew Gadaire '12 did so on March 28, 2009 versus Appalachian State.

BROTHERLY BATTLE: David Daniels faced his older brother, Leighton, 4/16 when Leighton's Winthrop Eagles visited Wilson Field. Leighton is a junior and both brothers were teammates at East Mecklenburg H.S. Leighton did not play when the two teams first met earlier this season at Winthrop (3/26) due to an injury. Both both led-off for their respective teams, but Leighton's Eagles won, 5-3, and he went 3-for-5 with an RBI. David was 0-for-4.

BOSTON MARATHON: J.P. Craven '11, a former Davidson catcher is in the thoughts of the Davidson baseball family, as he is recovering from injuries sustained in the attack at the Boston Marathon.

ONLY STAT THAT COUNTS: Davidson defeated College of Charleston, 5-4, in extra innings (4/13), despite having more errors than runs by matching a season high with six miscues. The Wildcats did not allow any unearned runs to score and tied the game in the ninth inning before winning it in the 10th.

CLUTCH UP THE MIDDLE: Freshman 2B Sam Foy was the hero in the first two Davidson walk-off victories this season. He singled in the bottom of the ninth against Appalachian State (3/2) for a 4-3 win in the bottom of the ninth and doubled in the bottom of the 10th at Fluor Field for a 7-6 win over Furman (3/17). Senior SS Michael Zeblo was the hero in Davidson's 10th-inning win over College of Charleston (4/13) with a single through the right side.

BONUS BASEBALL: Davidson has had three games go to extras. Davidson played its first extra inning game of the season Mar. 8, ultimately losing to Western Carolina, 9-4 in 13 innings. The 'Cats were 2-4 in extra innings in 2012, and had not played a game as long as 13 innings since 2003, a 7-6 win over UNCG (5/17). Davidson is 2-1 this season after a 10th inning victory over Furman at Fluor Field, 3/17, and another 10-inning win over College of Charleston, 4/13.

BEND BUT DON'T BREAK: Davidson was the underdog entering it's 4/5 game vs. UNCW, as the Wildcats had lost their last 10 and the Seahawks were receiving Top 25 votes, but Davidson prevailed, 2-1. UNCW went 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position, stranding 12 on the bases, as the 'Cats came up with key pitches and great defensive plays, escaping three bases-loaded jams.

LOSING STREAKS END: Davidson has lost its last seven meetings against UNCW and had lost all seven home contests with the Seahawks, but ended both droughts with a 2-1 victory (4/5). Dating back to 2009, Davidson had lost the last 11 games against Appalachian State, but finally prevailed on Mar. 2. With runners on second and third and one out in the bottom of the ninth, Sam Foy singled to shallow center to drive in Nathan Becker for the tying run, but the ball slipped past centerfielder Jaylin Davis, allowing pinch-runner Aaron Ruzinsky to score the winning run from second base.
