CHARLESTON, S.C. – Six batters from The Citadel had multi-hit games as the Bulldogs defeated Davidson, 22-7, in Southern Conference baseball action on a windy Friday evening in Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park. The two teams will conclude the three-game series early, playing a doubleheader Saturday starting at 1 p.m. due to expected inclement weather on Sunday.

First baseman Calvin Orth went 5-for-6 with a triple, a pair of doubles and three RBI to lead The Citadel (28-19, 14-7 SoCon), while second baseman Mason Davis went 4-for-5 with two RBI. Catcher Joe Jackson drove in five runs on a 3-for-6 day, while shortstop Johnathan Stokes also went 3-for-6, and drove in four runs, including three on a home run.

Third baseman David Daniels paced Davidson (13-30, 8-17 SoCon) going 2-for-4 with his second home run of the season and three runs scored. It was the first home run that reigning Southern Conference Pitcher of the Week and Month Austin Pritcher (6-2) had yielded this season, as the last one he had surrendered was at Wilson Field to Forrest Brandt last season. RHP/DH Ryan Lowe also went 2-for-4 in the game for the Wildcats.

The winds were sustained in excess of 20 MPH blowing out to right field, with gusts approaching 40 MPH.

Pritcher allowed five runs (three earned) in six innings of work on six hits and a walk while striking out nine. LHP Ross White pitched the final three innings to earn his first save of the season.

Leading 3-2 entering the fourth inning, The Citadel took command with a six-run inning, and then added five more the next inning for a 14-2 lead.

Right fielder Brett Bullard (3-for-4) hit a double into the right fielder corner with the bases loaded to drive in the first two runs of the game in the bottom of the second, and then with one out and the bases loaded again, Jackson drove in another run on a groundout.

Right fielder Nathan Becker (1-for-4) doubled to leadoff the third inning and later scored Davidson's first run on an errant throw when he attempted to steal third base. Daniels then sent a 3-2 pitch with two outs over the wall in right field to bring Davidson within one.

The Citadel took over in the fourth as the Bulldogs loaded the bases with no outs and scored their first two of six runs on a walk and a wild pitch, respectively. Jackson then drove in two more runs with a single up the middle, and later with two outs, Orth hit an RBI-triple and then scored on a single by Stokes. In the fifth, The Citadel scored five runs on five singles, a double and a sacrifice fly.

An RBI-single by shortstop Michael Zeblo (2-for-5) and a pair of errors gave Davidson three runs in the sixth to make it a 14-5 game. The Citadel added an unearned run in the bottom of the sixth, and then Davidson tacked on two unearned runs in the top of the seventh on an RBI-double by Brandt (1-for-4) and an RBI-single by Lowe for a 15-7 margin. Stokes' three-run homer for the Bulldogs capped a seven-run eighth inning for the final margin.

Lowe (4-7) suffered the loss after pitching the first 3 2/3 innings.
