Box Score

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — The Wofford Terriers completed the series sweep over the Davidson Wildcats with a 2-1 victory Sunday afternoon at Russell C. King Field.

Wofford (17-20, 5-10 SoCon) scored its only runs in the fourth inning on a one-out double by Clark Wise and RBI-base hits by Konstantine Diamaduros and Josh McKinney.

After Terrier starter Tom Dolinak (W, 3-3) loaded the bases on walks, Davidson (16-19, 8-12 SoCon) got a run back in the fifth on an RBI-fielder's choice by junior second baseman Calvin Sigelbaum, but it was all the run support junior RHP Ryan Overcash (L, 2-3) would get. Overcash held the Terriers to two runs on just four hits and struck out four in 5 1/3, but Davidson had two hits in the final game, one by both sophomore third baseman Andrew Barna (1-for-3) and sophomore shortstop Michael Zeblo (1-for-2).

The Terriers got a base runner in both the first and the second, courtesy of a hit-by-pitch and walk, but freshman catcher Daniel Gerow threw both out trying to steal second. And after Dolinak retired his first six batters, Zeblo got the first hit of the day in the third with a base hit into center field. But the Terriers erased him, too, as Sigelbaum popped up a sacrifice bunt attempt that Dolinak turned into a double-play ball before using a fly out to keep the game scoreless.

Overcash faced the minimum in the third, before Wise recorded Wofford's first hit in the fourth, a one-out double into the corner in right field, and made it 1-0 as he beat the relay in from left field on an RBI-single by Diamaduros. The Terriers tacked on another as McKinney followed with a base hit to right field to score Diamaduros, who had taken second base on the throw in the previous at-bat.

Davidson had something going when senior designated hitter Danny Weiss took a leadoff walk in the fifth and moved to third on a chopper up the middle by Barna. After Barna was picked off trying to swipe second, senior right fielder Sam Payne took his place with the second walk of the frame and Zeblo drew another to load the bases. Davidson got on the scoreboard as Weiss scored from third on a fielder's choice by Sigelbaum that erased Zeblo at second, but Dolinak got out of the jam with a ground ball to preserve the one-run lead.

The Wildcats went down in order in the sixth, and Overcash's fourth strikeout started the bottom of the inning before Wofford put a pair on with an error and an intentional walk of Mac Doyle to get to leftie Diamaduros for senior LHP Mac Hunter, who did his job with an infield fly and a routine fly out. RHP Bobby Streisel faced the minimum in the seventh, and Hunter retired his third straight hitter before giving way to senior RHP Mike Frongello after walking Landon Bennett. Pinch hitter Taylor Rozier singled to left, and both runners advanced a base on a double steal before Frongello got a fly out from Stephen Cantrell for the second out and worked out of the inning with a groundball.

Pinch hitter #J.P. Craven# gave the Wildcats a base runner on a two-out walk in the eighth, but RHP Ryan Traylor got his glove on a line out by junior center fielder Seth Freeman to end the inning. Frongello did his job in the eighth, retiring three straight on three fly balls to the outfield, but RHP Drew Sheridan (S, 1) did the same in the top of the ninth to earn his first save of the season.

With no midweek game, Davidson will return to action Thursday at 7 p.m. at Wilson Field, the first game of a three-game Easter weekend series with Appalachian State.
