SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Michael Gilmartin hit a grand slam in the fifth inning to give the Wofford Terriers the only runs needed to secure the Southern Conference series with a 4-2 win over the Davidson Wildcats Saturday at Russell C. King Field.

Gilmartin hit a one-out home run with the bases loaded courtesy of two walks and a base hit and then took the mound to face just three batters in the top of the ninth to earn his third save of the season.

Davidson (8-9, 3-3) took a 1-0 lead on freshman catcher Seth Freeman's third home run of the season in the top of the fifth, but the Wildcats would manage just two hits the rest of the way.

Freeman accounted for two of Davidson's five hits and drove in both of the 'Cats' runs, plating freshman left fielder Drew Gadaire on an RBI-groundout in the sixth inning.

Senior designated hitter Pat Brady was hit by a pitch to start the inning, but was erased on Gadaire's fielder's choice. Senior third baseman Chris FitzPatrick singled through the right side to put runners on the corners, and Gadaire scored from third on Freeman's ground out.

Gus White (2-2) limited the Wildcats' bats to two runs on four hits in six innings to earn the win for Wofford (10-8, 3-2).

Freshman Chris Lamb (1-2) took the loss for Davidson, allowing three runs on four hits in 4 1/3 innings.

Davidson and Wofford will conclude the series tomorrow at 1 p.m.
