DAVIDSON, N.C. — After surrendering a four-goal lead in the second half, Davidson's Jen Crawford and Jenna Mugele tried to even things up with three straight late goals, but the comeback fell short as the Marist Red Foxes held on for an 11-9 come-from-behind victory at Richardson Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Trailing by four goals with 7:31 on the clock after Lauren Ciccarello capped off an eight-goal Red Fox run by netting her second score of the game, and Marist's 10th of the contest, Crawford drew a free-position shot and connected with 7:13 left.

Close to three minutes later, the junior midfielder struck again, going right at Marist's defense for her 21st goal of the year  to bring the Wildcats within two at 10-8 and just over four minutes left in the contest. On the next possession, Anna Smith grabbed the draw control and Davidson drew two fouls, before Jenna Mugele then connected on a free-position shot at the 3:49 mark to put the score at 10-9.

Marist though, earned the draw control on the next possession and proceeded to work the ball around, running the clock all the way down to 18 seconds, before getting the final score of the game on Stephanie Garland's fourth goal of the contest for the final of 11-9.

Garland led all scorers with four goals, one of three Marist players to have multi-goal games. She scored three times during Marist's (4-1) eight-goal run in the middle stages of the second half that turned a four-goal deficit into a 10-6 lead with 7:31 left.

She was followed by Kate Noftsker and Lauren Ciccarello with two scores each. Noftsker scored both her goals on back-to-back possessions that brought Marist to within one of Davidson at 6-5 during the eight-goal spurt.

Davidson (5-4), finishing off a stretch where it played eight of its first nine contests at home, saw Crawford (2) and Emily Rahill (2) pace the Wildcat attack.

Rahill got the scoring started on the evening with a goal at the 21:48 mark of the first half on her first collegiate goal. The junior then added one more in the half at the 13:22 mark to score half of the Wildcats' four goals as they held a 4-2 lead at halftime.

Callie Seymour and Smith then opened the new half with a goal each in the first five minutes to push the Wildcat lead out to 6-2, before Marist made its comeback. Davidson was forced to call both of its timeouts during the run, but the Wildcats could never shift the momentum to their side, surrendering the four-goal lead.

Marist held a two-shot advantage, 27-25, for the game, while also picking up 14 draw controls compared to the Wildcats' eight. Davidson did hold a 10-9 advantage in groundballs, with Claire O'Shea, Haley Cook, Smith and Rahill tallying two each.

In goal, the Wildcats' Michelle Pav was credited with eight saves, seven of them in the first half, while Kelsey Thoms picked up a game-high 11.

One thing that hurt the Wildcats that usually is a strength was their free-position shots. They finished 4-of-13 in the game, including just 3-of-8 in the second half. Marist did not fare much better, going just 4-of-11 in its attempts.

Davidson hits the road for a 1 p.m. contest at Longwood on Mar. 21.
