FARMVILLE, Va. — Junior Emily Rahill (Ridgewood, N.J.) had her second straight two-goal game, but Longwood countered with three players who each scored twice on its way to doubling up Davidson, 10-5, in women's lacrosse on Saturday afternoon.
Davidson suffered its second defeat in a row to fall even on the year at 5-5, while Longwood moved 6-3 overall. The Lancers avenged a 15-11 loss to the Wildcats last year on the road.
The Lancers' Kesley Dean paced all players with four points on two goals and two assists. She was followed in the stat sheet by Dee Warehime and Cara O'Brien with two goals each as well, while four other Lancers netted single goals.
Joining Rahill in the two-goal column was junior Haley Cook (Darien, Conn.), who had her seventh game of the season with at least two goals. Freshman Jenna Mugele (Baltimore, Md.) had her third game in a row with a goal to round out the Wildcats' scoring.
After Cook gave the Wildcats a 1-0 lead with her 15th goal of the season, Dean came right back five minutes later with a score in the 22nd minute to even things up.
From there, both teams went scoreless for nearly 13 minutes trading possession after possession and getting off a combined eight shots.
Dean then struck again at the 9:51 mark of the first half for the go-ahead goal. Longwood would go on to get one more goal for a 3-1 lead at halftime.
Trailing 5-1 after Longwood struck twice for goals to open the new half, Davidson stormed back with three straight goals by Mugele, Cook and Rahill, with the last goal coming at the 14:02 mark.
The one goal deficit, 5-4, would be as close as Davidson got as Longwood took away the momentum by scoring on three of its next four possessions by earning the draw control and taking it straight down the field for goals without Davidson getting a chance to counter.
Rahill added her second goal, and the fourth of her career, with just seven seconds left to finish off the scoring for Davidson.
The trio of senior Jennifer Lindsey (Davidson, N.C.) and sophomores Erin Betsch (Port Washington, N.Y.) and Stella Davis (Phoenix, Md.) paced the team in groundballs with a combined 12 of Davidson's 18 in the game. Betsch closed with five, while Davis had four and Lindsey three.
In goal for Davidson, junior Michelle Pav (Golden, Colo.) had her fifth double-figure save game, getting a game-best 13.
Davidson stays on the road for its next game with a trip to Lehigh, Mar. 28, for a 12 p.m. contest.
