DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson College women's soccer team is set to begin 2025 action when it travels to face in-state non-conference opponent UNC Greensboro 7 p.m. Thursday.
Under the guidance of Riley Piechnick, who enters her third season at the helm of the program, the Wildcats are coming off a wildly successful 2024 campaign. Davidson visited the Atlantic 10 quarterfinals a season ago for just the third time in program history. The feat made Piechnick the second coach to ever lead a Wildcat women's soccer team to an A-10 Tournament appearance.
The 'Cats, who were slated to finish ninth in the conference per this year's A-10 Preseason Poll, closed out the 2024 season with an 8-8-3 overall record and 4-5-1 mark in conference action after squaring off to an eventual 2-0 loss against the reigning A-10 Champions Saint Louis.
Davidson returns 20 players from last year's roster including A-10 All-Rookie selection Sophia Whiddon and A-10 All-Academic honoree SJ Pak. Additionally, Piechnick welcomes an eight member freshmen class that includes Caitlin Burke (Defense / Arlington, Va.), Brenna Hanbury (Defense / Nashville, Tenn.), Isabella Harry (Forward / Ocoee, Fla.), Madelyn Hayes (Forward / Port Crane, N.Y.), Lindsay Kinlaw (Forward / Raleigh, N.C.), Ryan Lewis (Defense / Richmond, Va.), Reese Montgomery (Midfield / Arlington, Va.) and Grace Stair (Goalkeeper / Alpharetta, Ga.).
The 2025 regular season will kick off 7 p.m. Thursday at UNC Greensboro before the Wildcats return home to face USC Upstate 1 p.m. Sunday in their home opener. Davidson then round out the first month of the season with three additional matches at Appalachian State (Aug. 21), home versus NC State (Aug. 24) and at Charleston Southern (Aug. 31).
September will see a pair of home contests versus Radford (Sept. 4) and Furman (Sept. 7) before a two-match road trip to UNC Asheville (Sept. 14) and Saint Louis (Sept. 21). The conclusion of September will take place at Alumni Stadium against St. Bonaventure (Sept. 25) and Loyola Chicago (Sept. 28).
The final month of the regular season is set to start on the road at Saint Joseph's (Oct. 2) before returning home to welcome Fordham (Oct. 5) and back on the road at both Rhode Island (Oct. 12) and George Mason (Oct. 16). The Wildcats will then enjoy a pair of home contests versus La Salle (Oct. 19) and George Washington (Oct. 23) before finishing the regular season at VCU (Oct. 26).
Atlantic 10 postseason play is set to take place starting on Oct. 31.
