
Wildcats Top UNC Greensboro 2-1 in Season Opener

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Davidson College women's soccer team opened the 2025 season with a 2-1 victory on the road against UNC Greensboro Thursday night.
The 'Cats open the year with a 1-0 record with seven non-conference matches remaining on the schedule.
In her first start as a rookie, Reese Montgomery netted the opening goal of the early season (6:07) on an assist from Sophia Whiddon, who would go on to extend the Wildcats' lead to 2-0 in the first half with a goal of her own in the 37th minute.
Aiding in the offensive efforts were Charlotte Hansen, SJ Pak and Dakota Lyons who each landed one shot on target over the match.
Starting goalkeeper Allie Moore, in her debut for Davidson, was able to preserve the first-half shutout facing four total shots with just one being on goal to pick up her first collegiate win in goal.
The second half saw a surge for the Spartans who narrowed the Wildcat lead to just one goal on a top-shelf strike at 72:24 by Mairead Gayer. UNCG would not let up on its attack over the fading minutes of the final frame peppering freshman goalkeeper Grace Stair with nine total shots. However Stair was able to bring in a game-high five saves including three with under 10 minutes of action left to preserve the 2-1 triumph for the Wildcats.
Savannah Pruitt and Olivia Bestic were the lone Wildcats to see all 90 minutes of action over the win.
For the match, the 'Cats led in saves (6-3) while the Spartans held advantages in shots (13-6) and shots on goal (7-5).
