DAVIDSON — Hank Gomric's 11th-inning RBI-single lifted Saint Louis to a 6-5 win over Davidson in Atlantic 10 Conference baseball Saturday afternoon at Wilson Field.
The Wildcats (15-18 overall, 10-4 A-10), who had won their previous five A-10 contests, forced extra innings by tying the game at 5-5 when Jamie Daly and Eli Putnam opened the ninth inning with back-to-back doubles. Putnam's double to left-center hit off the wall, just missing a walk-off home run, but it was enough to score Daly from second with no outs.
However, Billikens pitcher Charlie Weber (7 IP, 10 Ks) retired three of the next four batters to strand Putnam at second and end the threat.
Saint Louis (18-16, 7-7) led 5-3 in the fifth after Riley Iffrig's two-run home run, but the Wildcats stayed within striking distance thanks to an Anthony Torreso RBI-double in the fifth.
After the Billikens scored two runs in the first, Cider Canon hit a solo home run to get Davidson on the board. Daly drew a bases-loaded walk to tie it at 2-2 in the second, and he doubled in a run in the fourth to push the Wildcats ahead 3-2.
Starter Isaac Fix (4.2 IP) struck out seven, while allowing six hits and five earned runs.
