'Cats Click at Crown Lacrosse Classic

CHARLOTTE -- The Davidson lacrosse team made a statement in its inaugural meeting against the Charlotte 49ers Saturday afternoon, defeating its new regional rival 22-13 at the Crown Lacrosse Classic inside American Legion Memorial Stadium.
Jenna Skibbe and Josie Lambert paced the Wildcats' high-powered offense with seven and six goals, respectively, while goalkeeper Kayla Joyce made 15 saves in her third win of the season.
Davidson got on the board early and often thanks to Skibbe's hat trick in the first five minutes of play. With an early 9-3 lead, Davidson later pulled away to a 13-5 advantage as Riley Cochrane, Shayna Brodman, Devyn Martinez and Lambert all scored before the intermission.
Coming out of the break, Skibbe and Lambert exchanged goals with Charlotte until the 49ers cut the deficit to four, 16-12 with 11:58 remaining. From there however, the Wildcats rattled off a 6-1 scoring run to close out the contest and seal the non-conference victory.
In addition to her first career goal, Martinez also dished a pair of assists. Cochrane and Brodman each recorded three-goal games, while Riley Moore scored one goal and won seven draw controls.
In all, the 'Cats won the draw battle 20-18 and the Davidson defense caused 16 turnovers.
