1ST AND 10
- The Wildcats will wrap up their 2024 home slate Saturday afternoon when Morehead State visits Davidson College Stadium for a 1 p.m. kick off.
- Prior to the contest, Davidson will honor its 2025 senior class, which will go down as one of the most successful (2 FCS Playoff, 1 PFL titl, 28 wins) in program history.
- Coming off a setback at San Diego last weekend, the Wildcats enter 5-4 overall and 3-3 in Pioneer Football League action.
- Dating back to the 2020 campaign, the 'Cats are 16-2 in PFL home games.
- The Wildcats are 34-17 in PFL play under Head Coach Scott Abell, while capturing two regular season crowns and making three FCS Playoff appearances.
- In Davidson's week 10 loss, junior running back Mari Adams became the fourth player in school historyto record multiple 1,000-yard seasons.
- In addition to leading the league in every rushing category, Adams ranks among FCS National leaders in rushing yards (1,008 / 9th), rushing yards per game (112.0 / 8th), yards per carry (7.05 / 5th) and rushing touchdowns (13 / 4th).
- Davidson, which has possessed the nation's top rushing offense five of the last six seasons, leads all of FCS in 2024 averaging 325.4 yards per game.
- The Wildcats also rank among FCS national leaders in total offense (456.7 / 7th), scoring offense (37.8 / T-6th), passing efficiency (157.32 / 10th) and time of possession (34:17 / 3rd).
- Saturday's meeting will be the 26th all-time between Davidson and Morehead State.
- The Wildcats have won four of the last five, but trail the series, 15-10.
- Prior to last season's 47-17 Morehead State victory, the previous three games (2020-22) were decided by a total of 12 points.
- Davidson was unable to overcome a strong second quarter by San Diego as the Wildcats fell on the road last Saturday afternoon, 40-13, inside Torero Stadium.
- Trailing 10-7 early in the second quarter, Davidson appeared to be putting together its second straight scoring drive before San Diego forced a fumble that was picked up by Jerry Riggins and returned 73 yards for a touchdown.
- The 'Cats would never recover from the scoop and score as the Toreros put together a 30-point second quarter to take a 37-13 lead at the half.
- Davidson's only scores in the game came on nine and 32-yard runs from Sam Valor and Luke Durkin, respectively.
- Despite the loss, junior Mari Adams became just the fourth Wildcat in program history to go over 1,000 rushing yards in multiple seasons.
- The Wildcats, who entered as the nation's top rushing team, finished the day with 228 yards on the ground, led by Valor's 77.
- Ja'seem Reed, the PFL's top wide receiver led the Toreros with 14 catches for 186 yards and two touchdowns.
- Davidson suffered a 47-17 setback at Morehead State Saturday afternoon in Pioneer Football League action at Jayne Stadium.
- After Adam Zouagui put Davidson up 3-0 with a 41-yard field goal late in the opening quarter, Morehead State responded with 26 second-quarter points to take a 26-3 lead with 2:48 left in the first half. During their game-changing stretch, the Eagles picked off two passes.
- In all, Morehead State forced six interceptions on the day, turning them into 27 points.
- Davidson cut the deficit to 26-10 just before the half when Kellyn West scored his first career touchdown off a six-yard grab from Coulter Cleland.
- The Wildcats would add another score midway through the third on a Mari Adams' one-yard run to get within nine, 26-17.
- Not long after Davidson got back into the contest, the Eagles closed the quarter with a pair of 25-yard touchdown passes to Ryan Upp, all but putting the game out of reach.
- Despite the loss, Adams finished with 122 rushing yards on 15 carries for the 'Cats, who totaled 263 yards on the ground.
- Julian Rawlins led Davidson's defense with six tackles, while Darryn Kindles finished with a sack, three tackles for a loss and a forced fumble.
- Davidson will enjoy a week 12 bye before concluding its 2024 season Nov. 23 at Valparaiso.
