Football Falls to Elon Saturday Night

DAVIDSON — A 21-point second quarter helped Elon get separation in a 38-0 win over Davidson on Field 76 at Davidson College Stadium Saturday night.
With the loss, the Wildcats fell to 0-2, while Elon improved to 2-0.
Elon outgained the Wildcats 345-251 and did most of its scoring via the running attack, while building a 24-0 halftime lead. When Elon quarterback TJ Crews IV hit Jaedon Alford for a 36-yard score in the third quarter, the Phoenix had scored on four straight drives.
Davidson quarterback Casey Bullock finished 13-of-32 passing for 174 yards, including a 40-yard completion to Jacary Lightsey in the opening quarter. Lightsey led the Wildcats with 72 yards on three receptions. AJ Adams (4 catches, 41 yards) and Alani Ajigbotosho (3 catches, 38 yards) each had longs of 24 yards.
Davidson's best opportunity to score came on its first drive, when the Wildcats marched to the 7-yard line. But after two incomplete passes, kicker Christos Tzoumakas' 24-yard field goal hit the left upright and bounced away.
Tzoumakas had the Wildcats' longest rush of the night, running for 25 yards on a fourth-and-12 in the second quarter when he was under duress on a punt play.
Defensively, Hudson Altenburg, Ayden Bell and Jarmal Gilmore (1.5 TFL) had seven tackles apiece, while Brice Baker added a sack.
Elon's Kamerin McDowell-Moore ran 15 times for 88 yards, including a 29-yard score to make it 10-0 in the second quarter. Jimmyll Williams added short touchdown runs to cap the next two Phoenix drives, as they built a three-score lead.
