WASHINGTON, D.C. — Davidson and George Washington played to a 1-1 draw in Atlantic 10 women's soccer action Sunday afternoon, concluding the Wildcats' season.
The Colonials struck first Sunday, taking a 1-0 lead when Kelly Amador scored in the 16th minute. Hannah Casey evened the score in the 55th minute after a right-to-left shot on a breakaway, set up by a long ball by Kendall Bushick. It was Casey's second goal of the year.
"Another great effort from the group today," said Davidson coach Adam Denton. "Good battle between two good teams. Pleased to get a point on the road, but was pushing for three. Once again pleased with our effort and endeavor. Has been a tough season with plenty of adversity, but we will learn from it, be better for it and bounce back."
Davidson finished with six shots-on-goal Sunday, including two from Riley Patton. Sophia Caruso, Aleia Gisolfi-McCready and Phoebe Fowler also put shots on frame.
In goal, freshman Emily Smith made a season-high 11 stops in 110 minutes.
It's Davidson's fourth tie of the year, including the third this month in league play. The Wildcats played Duquesne to a 0-0 draw on Oct. 3 at home, and fought George Mason to a 1-1 draw on Oct. 14, also at Alumni Stadium. Additionally, Davidson and USC-Upstate ended up 0-0 on Sept. 9 in Spartanburg, S.C.
