‘Cats Fall on the Road to Appalachian State

BOONE, N.C. – The Davidson College women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the young season in a 2-0 decision at Appalachian State Thursday night.
The loss moves the Wildcats' record to 2-1 overall while the Mountaineers improve to an undefeated 3-0 to open the year.
App State was able to enjoy a one-goal lead for the majority of the first half, with Ellie Garrison landing a strike past 'Cats starting goalkeeper Allie Moore, in just the fourth minute of the match.
The remaining portion of the first frame became a defensive stalemate with the Wildcats controlling much of the offensive possession, taking eight shots and six corner kicks.
Despite the offensive dominance, the 'Cats continued to trail into the second half before the Mountaineers extended their advantage on a nicely placed corner kick by Kyli Switalski over the hand of Grace Stair.
The even combination of Moore and Stair made five saves while Sophia Whiddon led the Wildcats offense with six shots followed by Dakota Lyons with three total shots and one on goal.
For the match, the 'Cats led the Mountaineers in shots (14-12) and corner kicks (7-6) while App State held the advantage in shots on goal (7-1).
