NEW DOMINION
Saturday's game is proudly presented by New Dominion!
THE SERIES
Davidson leads the all-time series 8-4 dating back to the first meeting in 2001. The Wildcats snapped a 17-game PFL losing streak and three-game skid to the Crusaders last season at Brown Field, 40-35. Davidson dominated the early years, winners of the first five matchups, but are 3-4 since 2008. The two have split a pair of overtime games with Valpo taking a 35-29 extra frame victory in 2008 and Davidson 28-27 in 2012.
LAST TIME OUT
Davidson's late comeback fell short as Marist hung on for a 27-21 win at Richardson Stadium last Saturday. Junior quarterback Tyler Phelps threw a pair of touchdown passes, one each to Eli Turner Jr. and Aris Hilliard and finished with 160 yards on 12 completions. Junior running back Wesley Dugger rushed for his 12th touchdown over the last four games and led the run game with 83 yards. Senior linebacker Tony Collins led the team in tackles for the second straight week, registering 13 total stops and forced a Marist fumble.
SCOUTING THE CRUSADERS
Valparaiso (1-7, 1-3 PFL) comes to Richardson on the heels of their first win of the season after holding Stetson scoreless over the final three quarters in a 19-10 home victory. A major key to the Crusaders first tally in the win column was a four field goal performance by Dimitrios Latsonas with makes of 40, 43, 20 and 34 yards. For his efforts, he was named the PFL Special Teams Player of the Week. Valpo has struggled to put points on the board, averaging just 13.8 points per game, ninth in the PFL. Quarterback Chris Duncan has had a hand in seven of the nine Crusader touchdowns, rushing for five and passing for two. First-year head coach Landon Cox hangs his hat on defense and his squad is led by Jamari Booker with 57 tackles, four interceptions and a forced fumble. Booker's 13 tackle, two interception performance in the win over the Hatters last week earned him STATS FCS National Defensive Player of the Week recognition, as well as, the league's top weekly defensive honor.
