CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – No. 9 Virginia made the most of its two-man advantage late in the contest as the Cavaliers scored a pair of goals in the final 12:45, including one by Jean-Christophe Koffi with a second remaining, to rally past Davidson, 2-1, Monday evening at Klöckner Stadium.

With the win, the nationally-ranked Cavaliers improve to 6-1-1 overall, while the 'Cats fall to 5-2-1, with both setbacks coming to ACC opponents.

Koffi's game-winner from outside the box deflected in off two defenders following a corner kick in the closing seconds.

Davidson's Ned Morrissett broke a scoreless tie in the 70th minute when John Dale played it over the defense, setting up the sophomore's one-on-one opportunity.

Shortly after, the Wildcats were whistled for a handball in the box, resulting in a red card and a Sergi Nus' penalty kick that tied the game, 1-1.

Already a man down, Davidson was forced to play 9 vs. 11 from the 81:40 mark on due to its second red card.

Sawyer Gaffney led both keepers with four saves for the Wildcats.

Head Coach Matt Spear's Postgame Comments
"I am really proud of our team. They went toe-to-toe on the road against two strong ACC programs in back-to back matches – both games were very close and our energy, heart and performances were good. This group is not one to back down. They are strivers. And I believe these experiences are strengthening."

"Virginia is very talented - lots of athleticism and skill. As the first half progressed and we kept them scoreless, our confidence grew. And that elevated in the second half as we pushed forward more and more, culminating in Ned's first shot that the keeper saved, but not his second shot. We knew well that we could create scoring chances in transition moments. Ned's run was well timed - and the right ball by Jon Dale. When he gets a clear look at goal, I really like our chances because Ned's shots are so pure."

"Obviously the game turned on its head with the penalty kick call and red card on Cort Coxhead. Frankly I haven't seen the video yet, but it really, really surprised me. It just didn't look from field level like a handball, and certainly not deliberate to deserve a red card."

"The second red card turned the game to another level of challenge. I don't think I have ever coached 9 vs. 11. I played in a game that got to 9 vs. 9 in a 1992 win over North Carolina, but this was a whole new situation. Our guys really dug in and fought their best, just one second more to get to overtime where we could have talked to the guys and rallied them for overtime."

"It was special for Jordan Hill, Jaylen Thompson and Sawyer as Virginians to play tonight. Hunter Howard was really good again, two important performances in a row. And as usual, Matt Reinikka, Louis Evans and Cort among others gave every ounce of energy they have."

Virginia Head Coach George Gelnovatch's Postgame Comments
"I actually didn't see the goal, I was turning around to the staff to start prepping for the extra session."

"It's a win we needed to bounce back from Friday (against UNC) and go into this weekend against Notre Dame. I give credit to Davidson, they're a good team that played tough all 90 minutes."
