ELON, N.C. – The Davidson baseball team fell to the Elon Phoenix, 8-3, Wednesday night at Latham Park in a game that was originally scheduled at Wilson Field but moved due to weather conditions.
The Wildcats (5-3) took an early 2-0 lead after the fourth inning. David Daniels brought in the first run in the third inning with a single through the left side that allowed Jake Sidwell (walk) to score. Then in the fourth, it was Ryan Lowe with another single to left center that advanced Ben Arkin (HBP) and scored Andrew Pope (1B LL).
Elon (6-3) got on the board in the fifth on a double to left center, but the Wildcats matched it in the next series.
In the sixth inning, the Phoenix pulled away on four earned runs. After a RBI double, Elon's Chris King homered to center field for three runs that eventually secured the contest.
The two teams were even with eight hits apiece, while Davidson committed two errors compared to Elon's one.
Davidson will return to Wilson Field to host a four-team tournament that kicks off Friday, March 7 against Yale at 3:30 p.m.
