BIRMINGHAM, Ala.Andrew Barna and Nathan Becker combined for two home runs and seven RBI to lead Davidson over Samford, 10-5, in the second game of a Southern Conference baseball doubleheader Thursday night at Griffin Field.

Becker enjoyed a career day, going 4-for-5 with three RBI, including the first home run of his career, while Barna went 3-for-5 with four RBI, including his 12th home run of the season. Designated hitter Ryan Lowe went 3-for-5 with an RBI, tying Barna with a game high three runs scored. RHP Danny Mooney (6-4) carried a one-hitter into the seventh inning to earn the win for Davidson (17-31, 11-18 SoCon).

With four RBI in the game and five total for the day, Barna moved up to sixth all-time at Davidson with 143 RBI. He is one RBI shy of Brett Boretti '94 for fifth (144), and two RBI shy of Alan Lewis '87 (145).

Designated hitter C.K. Irby led Samford (27-27, 12-16 SoCon) by going 2-for-4, and four different players had an RBI each.

Barna started the scoring with a two-RBI single with the bases loaded in the first inning, and Becker later cleared the bases for two more runs with a double to left field. In the third, Lowe hit an RBI-double, and then Barna slugged a two-run home run and Becker hit his first career home run for an 8-0 lead. The Wildcats took a 10-0 lead in the seventh on a single by second baseman Sam Foy that drove in both Lowe and Barna.

The only hit Mooney surrendered before the seventh inning was a double to left fielder Christiaan Durdaller in the second inning. The Bulldogs finally got to Mooney in the seventh, scoring three runs on three hits and a walk, and they added two more in the eighth, although one run was unearned. Mooney finished after eight innings, surrendering the five runs (four earned) on seven hits and a walk with seven strikeouts.

RHP Patrick McGavin (0-5) took the loss, surrendering eight runs on seven hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

Davidson was eliminated from contention for a berth in the Southern Conference baseball tournament earlier in the day, as Samford's Game 1 win, 14-2, was all it needed to clinch at least the eighth and final berth over ninth-place Davidson. Davidson will finish the season in ninth place in the SoCon, which is its best finish since 2009. The 'Cats' 11 wins are also its most since 2009.

The two teams will conclude the three-game series Friday at 4 p.m. CT/5 p.m. ET. It will be the season finale for Davidson.
