DAVIDSON, N.C. – Led by a grand slam and three-run home run as part of a nine-RBI day from Brandon Murray, College of Charleston powered past Davidson, 18-5, in the final Southern Conference baseball series between the teams Sunday afternoon at Wilson Field.

Davidson (10-24, 5-13 SoCon) was led at the plate by centerfielder Forrest Brandt, who doubled and scored twice. Additionally, right fielder Nathan Becker (1-for-2) had an RBI-double, catcher Chris Dyer hit his first career home run and pinch hitter Jack McLindon drove in two runs late with a double.

Murray led College of Charleston (20-15, 11-6 SoCon) by clearing the bases three times with the two home runs and a double for a 3-for-5 day with a school-record nine RBI. Shortstop Gunnar Heidt went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI, while centerfielder Morgan Phillips also homered as part of a 2-for-4 day. Six Cougars enjoyed multi-hit games and Heidt, Murray and first baseman Carl Wise (2-for-4) each scored four runs. Twelve of the Cougars' 19 hits went for extra bases.

LHP Jake Zokan (2-1) held Davidson to two runs on seven hits and no walks, and struck out five in six innings of work.

College of Charleston trailed 1-0 entering the fourth inning but Heidt, third baseman Bradley Goodson and right fielder Cody Martin (1-for-5) each drove in runs for a 3-1 lead. Murray then gave the Cougars a 7-2 advantage in the fifth inning with a grand slam after the first three batters of the inning reached base. In the sixth, Phillips hit his second home run in as many days and Heidt followed later with a two-run home run for a 10-2 lead.

Davidson had got on the scoreboard first in the second inning, as Brandt led the frame off with a double, advanced to third on a sacrifice and scored on a wild pitch. The 'Cats scored again in the bottom of the fourth after back-to-back doubles by Brandt and Becker. Dyer's home run in the seventh and McLindon's two-RBI double in the eighth capped the Wildcats' scoring.

LHP Rob Bain (0-4) was tagged with the loss after allowing the first three runs on six hits and a walk and struck out two. Seven pitchers were used over the rest of the game.

Led by Murray's two-RBI double, the Cougars added four runs in the eighth, and then his three-run home run in the ninth led another four-run inning for the final margin.

Davidson will next host Winthrop Tuesday at 6 p.m. and return to Southern Conference action Friday at 7 p.m. against UNCG. The Wildcats will look to set an attendance record with the Davidson Baseball Bayou Bash during the UNCG game Friday.
