LOUSVILLE, Ky. – Unable to make a comeback after a two-hour weather delay, the Davidson field hockey team suffered a 3-2 loss to the No. 23 Louisville Cardinals on Saturday afternoon at Trager Stadium in Louisville, Ky.
 
Finley Amato scored ten minutes into the first half to put the 'Cats ahead 1-0.  Amato took a pass from Melissa Funsten to the middle of the circle and sent it past the left post for her first goal of the season. 
 
The Cardinals tied the game on a goal by Mallory Mason five minutes later.  Erin Schneidtmiller took a feed from Amber Thomas and sent it to the left post to give Louisville a 2-1 lead with 18 minutes to play in the first half.
 
Ten minutes into the second half, the Cardinals made it a 3-1 game.  Mason sent a pass from the left side of the cage to Becca Maddock, who sent it into the net to give the Cardinals the two-goal advantage.
 
However, the Wildcats would cut the deficit back to one just five minutes later.  Funsten sent in her second of the season off a penalty corner with the assist going to Danielle King, slashing the deficit to just one goal at 3-2.
 
The teams would enter a weather delay of nearly two hours with just 17 minutes to go in the game.  When play resumed, the Wildcats attempted three shots but could not get anything past Erin Conrad.
 
Davidson goalkeeper Sarah Fisher made six saves on the day while Funsten led the offense with four shots, two of which came on goal.  Amato totaled three shots with Tyler McFayden adding in two.  The 'Cats were outshot 14-10 by the Cardinals, who were led by Thomas and Schneidtmiller's four shots apiece. 
 
The Wildcats will remain in Louisville for a neutral site game against Ball State.  Game time is set for 1 p.m. on Sunday at Trager Stadium.
