LYNCHBURG, Va. — Looking to regroup from its first defeat in NorPac play Saturday, the Davidson Field Hockey team was unable to hold onto first place as the 'Cats dropped a 4-0 decision at Liberty Sunday afternoon on the Liberty Field Hockey Field.

Davidson (7-10, 4-2 NorPac), which finished up a four-game road swing, entered play tied for the top spot with the Flames in the East, but fell for the third straight game and second straight in league play.

Liberty (12-5, 5-1 NorPac), in its first year of playing field hockey, continued its recent hot streak by winning for the ninth time in the last 10 contests. It has won its last four league games.

The Wildcats fell behind quickly with Liberty's Hannah Doherty striking for the only goal the Flames would need 52 seconds into the start of the game. The Flames tacked on one more in the 12th minute from Abbey Basom and then added two more during the second half, including another from Basom.

Jordan Richardson of Liberty was credited with a pair of assists in the second half.

Finley Amato led Davidson with seven of its nines shots, putting six of them on frame, but was unable to find the back of the net. Goalie Sarah Fisher stopped five shots in her 70 minutes of action.

Davidson closes out its 2012 regular season with a couple of home contests, starting Friday, Oct. 26 at 6 p.m. against NorPac-foe Radford. It then will look to avenge today's loss by hosting Liberty, Oct. 28, at 1 p.m.
