DAVIDSON, N.C. — Senior Becky Horton (Walnut Creek, Calif.) and junior Haley Cook (Darien, Conn.) each scored twice in the opening 15 minutes of play and the Davidson women's lacrosse team raced out to a 7-0 lead onto its way to a 10-7 victory over Monmouth on Sunday afternoon at Richardson Stadium.

Davidson picked up its third straight home, all coming at home, to improve to 4-1, while Monmouth fell to 0-3 on the season.

Horton had her fourth game in a row of three goals or more, pacing the Wildcat attack with three scores. All three of her goals came in the first half when Davidson opened up a 7-0 lead through the first 30 minutes of play. She pushed her season goal total to 14.

Cook finished with two goals, the fourth time this year she had accomplished that feat, and fellow junior Jen Crawford (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) matched Horton's three goals with three of her own to give her 14 on the year.

Senior Callie Seymour (Denver, Colo.) tied Horton and Crawford with three points in the contest by picking up a goal and two assists.

The senior had a big first half as she got things rolling for the Wildcats with a score at the 27:26 mark. Then, 12 seconds later, she hooked up with freshman Jenna Mugele (Baltimore, Md.) for a 2-0 Wildcat lead that grew to seven at halftime.

Coming out of halftime, Monmouth used four straight goals by four different Hawks to close the gap at 7-4 and 18:54 left in the game.

Crawford put the game out of reach by tallying three straight goals of her own in the middle stages of the half for a 10-4 Davidson lead. Crawford's multi-goal game was the third of the season, and second three-goal game of the year.

The Hawks made one last charge with Molly O'Brien, Megan Brennan and Rachel Feirstein each netting their second goals of the game to close within three, 10-7, in the last six minutes, before the final horn capped off the game.

Besides Feirstein's two scores on the afternoon for Monmouth, she added a couple of assists to lead the Hawk attack with four points. Both assists were credited in the second half when the Hawks tallied all seven of their goals.

For the game, Monmouth held a 24-21 lead in shots and a 10-8 advantage in groundballs. Horton and Mugele had two groundballs each for th Davidson, while O'Brien and Carissa Franzi also had two apiece to lead Monmouth.

Between the pipes,  junior Michelle Pav (Golden, Colo.) registered her second double-figure game of the season in saves with 10, while Monica Johnson was credited with seven for Monmouth.

Davidson continues its seven-game homestand with a 6 p.m. contest against Virginia Tech on Tuesday, Mar. 10. The 'Cats game on the 10th will be the first of three during the week of Mar. 9-15.
