WASHINGTON — After compiling a 2.555 OPS, four home runs and 13 RBIs in a three-game series, Davidson catcher/designated hitter Anthony Torreso has been named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon.
The honor is the second of the season for Torreso, a redshirt junior from Stratford, Conn., who was also recognized on March 30.
"Tony had a great weekend," said Davidson coach Rucker Taylor. "He's done a lot this year to put himself in position to play a full season (after injuries). This was a wonderful way to wrap up his career at Wilson Field."
Against Rhode Island, Torreso hit .667 (8-for-12), slugged 1.833 and reached base at a .722 clip. He hit three home runs on Saturday, shortly after being honored for Senior Day, and in Sunday's home finale, he hit a grand slam and drove in six. For the weekend, he added two doubles and five walks and scored seven runs.
This season, Torreso is hitting .298 with a 1.008 OPS and leads the Wildcats with 12 home runs, 50 RBIs and 44 runs scored. He's also knocked eight doubles and two triples.
Torreso and the Wildcats will visit VCU this week in the final series of the regular season.
