DAVIDSON, N.C. - Tobe Ibe netted two second half goals to power the Davidson men's soccer team to 3-2 comeback victory over Charleston Monday night at Alumni Stadium.
Ibe's second and third career goals, along with a goal in the 37th minute from Myles Culley, allowed Davidson to start the season 2-0 for the first time since the 2021 season. This was also the first victory over Charleston since 2010.
The Cougars opened the scoring late into the first half with a 37th minute goal from Lennon Gill but the Wildcats answered back immediately as a deft back-heel touch from Baylen Young allowed Culley to bury the equalizer only 17 seconds later. Young's Assist was his third in the first two games of the season.
Ibe made the difference in this game, scoring two unassisted goals in the 52nd and 59th minutes, giving Davidson a two-goal advantage for a majority of the second half.
The Davidson backline held strong until the 83rd minute, when Stian Bendvold put the score at 3-2 with a late goal.
The defense held off the surging Cougars, bolstered by three saves from Lucas Beltran and strong play from backline defender Alonzo Clarke, the lone Wildcat to play all 90 minutes.
Gill led the Charleston offense in shots with two on target, while the Cougars out shot Davidson, 8-7.
Overall, both teams recorded five shots on target, with Davidson holding the edge in saves 3-2.
