DAVIDSON – Coming off one of their most successful campaigns in program history, the Davidson women's basketball team recently announced the signings of incoming freshmen Asha Nightingale (Victoria, Australia), Elena Alvarez Castellanos (Pamplona, Spain) and Inés García Monje (Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain).

"We are really excited by the addition of Asha, Elena and Ines to our program for the 2025-26 season," commented head coach Gayle Fulks. "In this class we looked to continue the momentum that we have had by bringing in players with high-level playing experience who have a competitive fire to them. All three have versatile skill sets and most importantly, they are winners. While Asha joins our pipeline of recent Australian ballers, Elena and Ines are the first Spanish players in our program and already have meaningful chemistry in playing together."

Asha Nightingale
6-1 | Forward
Victoria, Australia
Bendigo Spirit (WNBL) | Casey Cavaliers (NBL1)

Coach Gayle's Scouting Report
Nightingale has developed a reputation as an incredible leader within the Victorian basketball pathway. She has a family background in judo, and that love for physicality really shines in her game with her post play, defense and screen setting. As a forward she has shown the ability to play within an offensive system similar to ours and can also make teams pay by stretching them to the 3-point line. Asha was recently a part of the U20 Australian National Championships gold medal team, and this season was a development player at the highest level in Australia women's basketball with the WNBL Champion Bendigo Spirit, where she played beside several Olympians. Asha is currently involved in the selection squad for the Australian U19 Team for the 2025 U19 World Cup.

Elena Alvarez Castellanos
5-8 | Guard
Pamplona, Spain
Oses Construccion Ardoi (LF ENDESA-SPAIN)

Coach Gayle's Scouting Report
Alvarez Castellanos has the creative flair that is expected from a Spanish guard. She LOVES to play defense and has the quickness and strength to be a pest for opponents in our full-court defensive system. On the offensive end, Elena is a wizard in utilizing the on-ball screen and is creative in finding the paint, finishing in a variety of ways and creating for her teammates. She also has been developing a consistent outside shot. In 2024, Alvarez was on the Spanish team that finished in 3rd place at the U17 World Cup. Most recently, Elena has been gaining invaluable experience in being one of the youngest players in the top professional women's league is Spain with Oses Construccion Ardoi. Elena is currently involved in the selection squad for the Spanish U19 Team for the 2025 U19 World Cup.

Inés García Monje
6-2 | Forward
Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain
Segle XXI (LF2-SPAIN)

Coach Gayle's Scouting Report
Garcia Monje will bring to our team a versatile skill set that is matched by her high motor and impressive physical attributes. With a high basketball IQ and the ability to handle and score the ball, she should create matchup problems in the Atlantic 10. Her dedication to basketball is clear with her leaving home in the Canary Islands at age 13 to join the Segle XXI basketball academy in Barcelona, a national team training ground that led to her playing a pivotal role in helping Spain secure a third-place finish in the U17 World Championship, where she was named to one of the all-tournament teams. Her wide-ranging skill set has also led her to be heavily involved in 3x3 basketball, excelling on the international stage. Ines is currently involved in the selection squad for the Spanish U18 Team for the 2025 U18 Eurobasket.

Any additional signee(s) will be announced at a later date.
