'Cats Fall to Patriots in A-10 Semis

HENRICO, Va. — Davidson's first trip to the semifinals of the Atlantic 10 Women's Basketball Tournament ended at that juncture as second-seeded George Mason topped the No. 3 Wildcats 63-50 Saturday afternoon at the Henrico Sports and Events Center.
With the loss, the Wildcats fell to 19-13 overall, while the Patriots (26-5) advanced to meet No. 4 Saint Joseph's in Sunday's final. The Hawks reached the title tilt by knocking off top-seeded Richmond 50-49 earlier Saturday.
Katie Donovan led Davidson with 16 points, while Charlise Dunn added 14.
The Patriots, who shot 54.5 percent in the first 20 minutes, used a 10-0 run late in the first half to get separation and took a 32-25 lead into the intermission. After scoring the first eight points of the second half, George Mason extended its lead to as many as 18 in the fourth quarter.
Davidson held a 33-28 rebounding edge, but the Patriots turned 21 Wildcat turnovers into 26 points.
Zahirah Walton paced the Patriots with 16 points.
Davidson and George Mason split the regular season series, with each team winning on its home floor.
