Strong Second Half Leads Richmond Past Wildcats

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Maggie Doogan scored a game-high 26 points and Richmond drilled 12-of-24 3-pointers as the Spiders defeated Davidson, 65-43, in Atlantic 10 women's basketball action Saturday afternoon inside John M. Belk Arena.
The setback drops the 'Cats to 16-11 overall and 8-6 in the A-10, while Richmond improves to 22-4 and 12-1.
In addition to going 10-of-14 from the floor, Doogan, the league's leading scorer, also eclipsed the 2,000-point mark for her career in the contest.
Elena Alvarez Castellanos was the lone Wildcat in double figures with 12 points.
In a seesaw first half defined by unanswered scoring swings, Davidson utilized two separate runs of 10-0 and 9-0 to grab control, 25-16, with 3:42 left. However, Richmond responded each time, countering with an 8-0 spurt to tie the game before closing the period with 10 straight points to lead 26-25 at the break.
The Spiders torched the nets for 83.3 percent, including 6-of-7 from long range to take a 52-38 advantage into the final 10 minutes.
Richmond, which made just three field goals in the first quarter, went 22-of-38 (.578) the rest of the way.
Rachel Ullstrom added 16 points and 8 boards for the Spiders.
Both teams finished the game with 29 rebounds.
