‘Cats Win Sixth Straight; Cruise Past Second-Place George Mason

DAVIDSON – Issy Morgan scored 18 points and Davidson connected on 9-of-21 from long range in a convincing 66-50 victory over George Mason Thursday evening inside John M. Belk Arena.
In addition to handing the Patriots just their fourth loss of the 2024-25 season, the Wildcats move into a tie for third place in the league standings at 11-4, while improving to 16-11 overall.
After George Mason (23-4, 13-3 A-10) went back in front 33-32 early in the third, Davidson responded with eight straight points, which sparked a 16-4 run to close quarter three, highlighted by a Mallorie Haines trey just before the buzzer.
The 'Cats, who led 48-37 entering the final quarter, pushed the margin to as many as 21 at the 3:11 mark, putting the game out of reach.
Millie Prior, Kyra Bruyndoncx and Candice Lienafa finished with 12 points each for Davidson, which held George Mason to just 32.7 percent, including a 3-of-13 clip from behind the arc.
Zahriah Walton led the way for the Patriots with a game-high 20 points while Nalani Kaysia tallied 14 rebounds.
Davidson closed the opening 10 minutes on a 13-5 spurt to lead 19-16 after one.
Both teams struggled offensively in the second quarter, but the 'Cats still managed to build a seven-point lead on separate occasions before going to the half up, 27-24.
The Wildcats finished the night with nine blocks, including seven in the first half.
