Davidson Draws James Madison in WBIT

3/17/2025 11:10:00 AM | Women's Basketball

INDIANAPOLIS - The Davidson women's basketball team will continue its marquee season after earning an automatic bid into the Women's Basketball Invitation Tournament, where it will meet No. 1 seed James Madison on the road Thursday at 7 p.m.

The Wildcats will travel to Harrisonburg, Va., for their debut in the WBIT, which enters its second year as the NCAA's secondary postseason invitation tournament. Davidson's last postseason appearance was in 2022-23, where it was the consolation bracket champion in the Women's Basketball Invite (WBI). Additionally, the Wildcats most recent trip to the WNIT came in the 2012-13 season where it defeated old Dominion in the first round before falling to in-state rival Charlotte in the second round.

In one of the program's most successful years, the 'Cats compiled a 19-13 regular-season record and a 13-5 Atlantic 10 mark. The 19 wins tied the Wildcats' third-most single-season wins in program history while the 13-5 conference mark was the best for the 'Cats since joining the A-10 in the 2014-15 season.

The winner of the Davidson and JMU (28-5, 18-0) game will face the victor of Drake (22-11, 15-5 MVC) versus Marquette (20-10, 12-6 BIG EAST) in the second round. The Dukes hold a 3-0 record all-time against the 'Cats and most recently earned an 87-45 victory in non-conference action during the 2015-16 season.

The WBIT is the newest annual 32-team postseason invitation for women's basketball, which is owned and funded by the NCAA. The selection committee is made up of five former DI women's basketball coaches and three current/former Division I athletic administrators.

Preliminary round games (first, second and quarterfinal rounds) will be played at campus sites. The WBIT semifinals and finals will be played at Hinkle Fieldhouse on the campus of Butler University in Indianapolis. The top 16 seeds, as determined by the selection committee, will host first-round games provided they submit a bid and meet the minimum hosting requirements.

All preliminary round games will be broadcast live on ESPN+. The semifinal games will air on ESPNU, and the championship game will be broadcast live on ESPN2. Semifinal games will be played on Monday, March 31 with the first semifinal game starting at 2:30 p.m. ET. The WBIT championship game will be played on Wednesday, April 2 at 6 p.m. ET.
