‘Cats Shock No. 23/25 Presbyterian to Retain 1919 Cup

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Playing a nationally-ranked opponent on their home field for the first time in 84 years, Davidson upset No. 23/25 Presbyterian, 14-13, to retain the 1919 Cup, Saturday afternoon inside Davidson College Stadium.
Senior safety Dominic Njoku secured the Wildcats' first win over a ranked opponent since 2021 (at No. 25 San Diego) picking off the Blue Hose's Ty Englehart with 2:15 left to play.
Davidson scored on consecutive possessions to lead 14-0 after one. Hayden Bender's interception set up Langston Green's second career touchdown catch before Coulter Cleland connected with Mason Sheron on a three-yard pass with 20 seconds left in the opening quarter.
Sheron added 91 rushing yards on 20 carries.
Presbyterian (8-2, 4-2 PFL), which climbed to as high as 16th in polls earlier this season with wins over No. 11 Mercer and Furman, had won 12 of its last 13 dating back to 2024.
The Wildcats held the Blue Hose to just 69 yards in the air, while forcing a pair of turnovers.
Senior Mikah Kent led Davidson on the defensive side of the ball with nine tackles, a sack and two tackles for a loss.

Davidson will travel to Marist next weekend for its final road contest of the 2025 campaign.
