Smith, Tilles Earn A-10 Weekly Honors

WASHINGTON — Davidson volleyball players Melanie Tilles and Kinsey Smith have been named Atlantic 10 Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, the conference announced Monday afternoon.
The duo helped Davidson earn a weekend sweep at Saint Louis, which included a 3-1 win Friday, when the Wildcats hit a season-best .333, and a 3-0 victory Saturday when they had a season-high 12 blocks.
A sophomore middle blocker from Palos Verdes Estates, Calif., Tilles led the Wildcats with 12 blocks, including eight in Saturday's win. She swung .370 (14 kills) and averaged 1.71 blocks and 3.07 points per set.
Smith, a freshman setter from River Forest, Ill., dished out 44 assists in the 2-0 weekend, including 29 on Friday. She averaged 6.29 assists and 1.43 digs per set.
Smith, Tilles and the Wildcats (9-11 overall, 5-4 A-10) continue their A-10 slate by hosting Duquesne Oct. 25-26.
