'Cats Sweep Elon in Home Opener Friday Night

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Behind a balanced attack, Davidson opened the Wildcat Classic with a victory in straight sets over Elon on Friday night. Five scholar-athletes had six or more kills in the match. Meile Songaila and Elena Garcia-Guerrios led the way with eight kills apiece. Garcia-Guerrios was also solid at the service line with three aces.
After hitting percentages below .300 in each of the first two sets, the Wildcats erupted in the third set to seal the deal. Davidson posted a sizzling .346 hitting percentage and took the final set 25-13. Cayla Weisner did not play in the first two sets, however, was a huge spark in the third. The sophomore recorded three kills on only four attacks.
Davidson continued to utilize a 6-2 offense with setters Kinsey Smith and Ylame Dsamou. The two combined for 35 assists.

The Wildcats play two matches on Saturday inside John M. Belk Arena. The first match is at Noon against Delaware State and the second match is at 6 p.m. against Coastal Carolina.
