'CATS & TERPS
• Davidson will turn the page to take on Maryland in the opening game of the 2023 Asheville Championship on Friday, Nov. 10 at Harrah's Cherokee Center.
• The Asheville Championship will be Davidson's eighth consecutive MTE (multi-team event), and the 'Cats will meet Maryland for the 12th time in program history.
• The series dates back to the 1938-39 season, with the most recent matchup being an 82-70 Maryland victory in the first round of the 2007 NCAA Tournament where then-freshman Stephen Curry dropped 30 points for the Wildcats.
ABOUT MARYLAND
• After opening the 2023-24 campaign with a 68-53 win over Mount St. Mary's, Maryland will look for its 34th all-time regular-season tournament title after claiming last year's Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off with wins over Saint Louis and Miami.
• In the season opener, Julian Reese led the Terps with 18 points and eight rebounds. Jahmir Young and DeShawn Harris-Smith each added 12 points.
LAST TIME OUT
• Davidson guard Angelo Brizzi scored 15 points in his Davidson debut to lead five double-figure scorers as the Wildcats topped Washington & Lee 86-63 in the season opener Monday night in Belk Arena.
• David Skogman and Bobby Durkin each added 13 points, while Grant Huffman scored 12 and Reed Bailey notched 10 points and a game-best nine boards to the stat sheet.
• The win marked the Wildcats' 10th straight season-opening victory.
NEW FACES
• In all, Davidson returns 10 letterwinners from a season ago and welcomes the addition of freshmen Rikus Schulte (Münster, Germany), Hunter Adam (Christchurch, New Zealand), Mike Loughnane (Quincy, Mass.) and Bobby Durkin (Darien, Ill.). The 'Cats also bring on transfers Jarvis Moss (Stanford) and Angelo Brizzi (Villanova). Familiar faces to the program, Brizzi and Adam spent the second half of the 2022-23 campaign with the Wildcats, after enrolling at Davidson in January 2023.
ALL EYES ON G
• Among Matt McKillop's 10 returners include Preseason All-Defensive selection Grant Huffman.
• Huffman's recognition marks Davidson's first preseason or postseason A-10 All-Defensive Team honor and is just the second defensive conference nod for a Wildcat, after Max Paulhus Gosselin's 2009 SoCon Defensive Player of the Year award.
• A two-time team captain, Huffman finished the 2022-23 campaign ranked among conference leaders in assists (3.6/11th), assist/turnover ratio (2.3/3rd) and steals (1.3/14th).
VETERANS DAY
• The Wildcats have close ties to military veterans and those in the armed forces, and the case is especially so for freshman Hunter Adam.
• The New Zealander is the son of two veterans, both of whom have 15+ years of service in New Zealand's Infantry.
• Adam's father served tours in Afghanistan and Iran alongside US Soldiers during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
AGAINST THE BIG 10
• The Terps will be Davidson's third Big 10 opponent in the last three seasons, as the Wildcats took on #1 Purdue in Indianapolis last season and met Michigan State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament during the 2021-22 campaign.
