‘Cats Drop Heartbreaker to VCU

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Despite controlling a majority of the possession and finishing with a 10-6 advantage in shots, Davidson suffered a 1-0 setback to VCU in Atlantic 10 men's soccer action Wednesday evening at Alumni Stadium.
On their heels for much of the night, the Rams scored with 1:02 remaining when Tariq Moutaouakil got free down the far sideline on a counter and found the back of the net from just inside the 18-yard box.
Davidson (1-3-1, 0-1-1 A-10) had the better of chances in the first half, including with 20 minutes left, but Quinn Dudek's header from in front was turned away by the diving Mario Sequeira.
The Wildcats also threatened early and often after intermission, yet was unable to convert.
Henry Howell led the way with three shots, two of which VCU (2-1-1, 1-0-0 A-10) had to make unbelievable saves (one team) to keep the game scoreless.
Both keepers finished with three stops, while the Rams held the edge in corners, 5-3.

Davidson will continue league play Saturday with an 11 a.m. kick-off at George Washington.
