'Cats Topple Yellow Jackets, 7-0

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- The Davidson women's tennis team attacked West Virginia State this afternoon, picking up their second win of the year in a commanding 7-0 fashion.
The 'Cats jumped out to a hot start and never looked back, as all three doubles teams won their respective matches. Josie Schaffer and Nicole Krykanov dominated the Yellow Jackets to a 6-1 win on court one, picking up their second win as Davidson's No. 1 doubles unit. Mira Gladstone and Franny Shea followed suit, as they toppled WVSU 6-3 on court two, while rookies Ava Ignatowich and Victoria Anyanwu won their first doubles match as a team, and the first of each of their careers.
On the singles side, Josie Schaffer took down West Virginia State's Abigail Wild in two sets, after clipping the Yellow Jacket with a first set tiebreaker. Three other Wildcats needed tiebreakers to clinch their respective singles matches, including Ignatowich, who clinched the match victory for Davidson from court three after a 7-6 (8-0) and 6-1 set win. Senior Alyssa Hahn recorded her first singles win of the season, competing on court five and picking up 6-3, 6-1 results. After earning her first collegiate start last week, Anyanwu picked up her first career singles victory today, after coming out on top in a 10-7, third set defining win.
The 'Cats will be back in action and look to move from the Knobloch Tennis Center out to the Davidson Tennis courts next Saturday, March 6, against Western Carolina.
