COLUMBIA, S.C. – Four members of the Davidson women's tennis team competed at the 2026 ITA Carolina Regional Championship this past weekend on the campus of the University of South Carolina.
"Overall, I thought we had a great tournament," commented head coach Susanne Depka. "We learned a lot each match, which will definitely help us going into our last fall tournament as well as the spring season."
On Thursday, senior Charlotte Calderwood began play in the women's singles qualifying draw. Despite dropping her opening match to Shamiso Ndoro of Appalachian State, she bounced back with an impressive 6-3, 6-1 victory over Furman's Lily Doherty.
In the main draw, Davidson's Bryson Langford battled back from an opening round setback by upsetting seventh-seeded Sankavi Gownder of Wake Forest, 7-6, 1-6, 10-3. After perhaps one of the most impressive wins of her career, Langford would eventually fall to Duke's Ava Krug in the consolation Round of 16.
In doubles, the duo of Keri Rothenberg and Lilly Dwyer held off ECU's Zelie Bretin and Giorgia de Grisogono, 8-6, before falling to Furman's seventh-seeded team of Elle Warren and Lillie Murphy.
Calderwood and Langford would also pick up a solid 8-4 opening round victory, but fell to No. 6 seed Tatum Evans and Alanis Hamilton of UNC in the second round.
"We faced very tough schools in the second round of doubles," Depka commented. "We made good decisions, worked hard to execute our systems and again grew in these matches, but unfortunately came up short."
