Calderwood Advances to Semifinals to Highlight Day One of A10 Masters

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Charlotte Calderwood of the Davidson women's tennis team recorded a pair of straight-set singles victories Friday to advance to the semifinals of the A10 Conference Masters hosted by the Wildcats.
After holding off Ellen Katzer of Rhode Island, 6-3, 7-6 (4) in opening round action, Calderwood battled to a 7-5, 7-6 (5) win over Mila Badics of Duquesne to setup a matchup with Richmond's Sofia Maria Barbulescu Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
Fellow Wildcat Bryson Langford also recorded a straight-set win (6-3, 6-0) over St. Joe's Elena Fleming in the Round of 16 before falling in three-sets, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3, to Rhody's Iben Mol.
Langford will move to the consolation bracket where she awaits her opponent.
In doubles, Langford and Calderwood were edged by Mol and Grace Darcy of URI, 8-6, to begin the third annual event.
Day two will begin Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. with doubles.
