DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson maintained its unbeaten streak, pushing it to six games with its sixth straight shutout in a 2-0 win Thursday night vs. Duquesne in Atlantic 10 women's soccer action inside Alumni Stadium.
The Wildcats (7-3-1, 2-0 A-10) ran its unbeaten streak to 5-0-1 in the last six games with the victory and won its first two league games for the first time since joining the A-10. They also ran their home record to 4-2-1, having gone 3-0-1 the last four games.
Senior Cameron France knocked in the game-winner very early in the game and Keeley Copper added an insurance goal late to seal the win.
Comments from head coach Adam Denton
"We got off to a great start to open the game up. We got an early goal and it was a good goal as well, as we passed the ball into an attacking position with a good cross and a good run. But after that, the game started to die for us as we lacked a little bit of quality and didn't retain the ball as well as we should have."
"The second half was a little bit more the same, but we did have some pockets of success only to not hold onto the possession as long as we wanted to. We did defend well again and really the game was played in the middle third. The goal late also gave us that cushion we were looking for."
"Overall, we've got to be pleased with the win. We do have to look back at our performance and execution when we had the ball in this game, but getting another victory at home and a shutout is huge for us."
Quick Hits From the Game:
•Much like it has done during this unbeaten streak, Davidson struck early to grab the momentum as France registered a great one-touch goal at the 3:57 mark for a 1-0 lead.
•Reigning A-10 Freshman of the Week Hailey Braemer set up the play, sending a perfect ball into the middle of the box to France to earn the assist, her second of the season.
•The game remained 1-0 until Copper sealed it with perfectly placed long shot from 35 yards out that sailed over the keepers head to the back of the net for her first collegiate goal at the 85:24 mark.
•Reigning A-10 Defender of the Week Mary Grace Bunch and her defensive teammates took care of the rest in earning the shutout. She finished with five saves on the night to move her record to 2-0-1.
•Duquesne (3-3-2, 1-1 A-10) had a 7-1 advantage on corners, but Davidson won the shot count, 7-5.
•The win tied the all-time series up vs. the Dukes at 3-3-2.
•The six-game unbeaten streak is the longest since 2007 when the 'Cats had winning streaks of six and seven games, respectively, in a row during the season.
