PITTSBURGH, Pa. – In addition to becoming the fourth player in school history to hit the 2,000-point plateau, Jack Gibbs scored 34 points and drilled a pair of 3-pointers in the closing minute, to lift Davidson over top-seeded Dayton, 73-67, in the quarterfinals of the 2017 Atlantic 10 Men's Basketball Championships.

The Wildcats advance to the semifinals for the third straight season and will face the winner of Rhode Island/St. Bonaventure tomorrow at 1 p.m.

A day after Peyton Aldridge broke the arena scoring record with 33 points against La Salle, Gibbs bettered his teammate with a 12-for-22 shooting performance, including five of Davidson's 11 3-pointers.

Gibbs, who now has 2,019 career points, joins Stephen Curry (2,635), John Gerdy (2,483) and Fred Hetzel (2,032) as the only Wildcats to hit the milestone.

The three-time all-conference performer reached the mark with 2:51 left in the opening half, on a 3-pointer as the shot clock expired, that gave the 'Cats their largest lead of the game, 35-19.

Gibbs scored 17 in the period as Davidson (17-14) carried a 37-25 advantage into the break.

Dayton (24-7) opened the second half with a 16-7 run and eventually took the lead, 65-62, on a Charles Cooke trey with 2:17 remaining. The Wildcats responded and closed with an 11-2 spurt, highlighted by three consecutive triples, one from Jon Axel Gudmundsson to tie it, 65-65, and two by Gibbs to put the game out of reach.

Cooke paced four Flyers in double figures with 14 points; Xeyrius Williams had 13 to go along with 9 rebounds, while Scoochie Smith and Kendall Pollard finished with 12 each.

Aldridge, the league's second leading scorer coming in, finished with 14 points and 9 rebounds for the Wildcats, who shot 45.5 percent and held a 36-31 edge on the glass.

After Davidson limited the Flyers to nine field goals and 32.1 percent in the first 20 minutes, Dayton finished the game at 42.6 percent, but went 5-of-10 at the line.
