SAINT LOUIS, Mo. – Freshman Hugh Chatham netted his first career goal in the 96th minute to lift Davidson over Saint Louis, 1-0, in Atlantic 10 men's soccer action Saturday evening at Hermann Stadium.
With just under five minutes to play in the first overtime, Chatham raced in from the near side and perfectly placed a Charlie Caswell through ball inside the far post for the winner.
In addition to picking up a crucial three points in the standings, the Wildcats improve to 8-5-2 overall and 3-3-1 in league play. The setback drops the Billikens to 4-8-1 and 2-4-0.
Davidson, which recorded its fifth clean sheet of 2017, finished with a 14-9 advantage in shots.
Just prior to intermission, the Wildcats had a header from Coleman Richards taken off the board due to an offside.
Earlier in the opening period, Louis Evans had a great opportunity to break the scoreless tie, but pulled a shot just wide from about seven yards out.
Sawyer Gaffney stopped four shots for Davidson en route to his second career shutout.

Davidson will close out the regular season with a pair of home contests beginning with a 7 p.m. kickoff against Elon Tuesday evening.
Postgame Comments from Head Coach Matt Spear
"Saint Louis is a storied program with many past NCAA Championships. Their team this season is again very speedy in attack and central defender Lennart Hein is excellent. They beat two-time defending champs Stanford this season. But tonight we stepped up and rallied together for the win."
"After the first 15-20 minutes holding them off, our guys raised their level. And the second half we controlled stretches, so it felt like the win was there to grab."
"These guys are strivers and tonight they competed, challenged fiercely, dug deep and it was their will that set us apart."
"Shuggy's goal was the pivotal play and it underlines how well he played tonight. We really needed him to be productive."
"A really good shutout on the road for Sawyer, our back four and center mids Hunter Howard, Zach Marks and John Dale."
